Utah repertory theater company

Johnny founded the wholly nonprofit Utah Rep, with the unique mission to bring challenging theater that Utahns would not normally be able to enjoy. Utah Rep is “the area’s only theater company to solely focus on premieres and neglected shows,” according to the national BroadwayWorld website.

The company’s mission has been to produce entertaining, adventuresome, and illuminating premieres of dramas and musicals along with neglected shows. Its rich history of engaging adventurous theatergoers includes 35 productions—19 regional premieres, one first-in-state staging, four neglected classics, five classics, and six original productions.

Utah Rep is the state’s only company to make theatergoing affordable with Pay As You May ticketing—since its first production. And the only Utah company of its size to employ live musicians for each musical, including Rodgers and Hammerstein’s overlooked masterpiece, Carousel (with a 25-piece orchestra)—since its first production.

“It’s wonderful to see Utah Rep’s innovate and moving theater. Winning justified praise, the company stages lesser-known shows that might not otherwise be seen in Utah.”—Gephardt Daily

“In hugely entertaining productions, Utah Rep is tackling complicated subjects. The material could easily disintegrate if not handled carefully, but each show element is ably tied together.”—Utah Theatre Bloggers
